To celebrate 2023 Christian Charity Day, churches in Urumqi, Xinjiang, conducted Sunday services themed "Spur One Another on Toward Love and Good Deeds."
On October 15, churches in Urumqi preached on the theme of Charity Day which took place on October 14 and 15 this year (the third Saturday and Sunday in October), and the sermons were based on Psalm 37:27 and Hebrews 10:24, according to CCC&TSPM.
Pastor Tang Meng preached at the service at Mingde Church. He explained the word "charity" from its etymology—a combination of "kindness" and "benevolence", which means "having a loving heart" and "helping the needy with a free hand", respectively. He then used the parables of the workers in the vineyard and the Good Samaritan to explain the concepts of justice and mercy. In his sermon, Pastor Tang also shared the remarkable testimony of Urumqi Amity Elderly Home to encourage the believers to practice the teachings of the Bible.
The pastors of four other churches also talked about the origin of "Religion Charity Week" in their churches and preached the message of God's blessing to the world and mankind based on God's creation and salvation. They served as a reminder to believers to appreciate the lovely world that God had created and to look out for the weaker members of society.
All the churches had arranged special donations for this year's charity activities, with the funds collected helping widows, widowers, and orphans in the church and society.
