A believer's body has been donated for medical research and education after his death from cancer.
Brother Zhang Mingcong, a Christian man of Beimen Church, passed away at the age of 60 on May 17th due to ineffective treatment.
Zhang was a She ethnic minority from Punan, Zhangzhou, Fujian Province. Divorced with no children, he made a living by delivering takeout. Since 2021, he attended services at Beimen Church and became a Christian there.
In 2021, Zhang was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. During his hospitalization, Beimen Church paid some nursing fees and medical expenses for him, with a pastor accompanying him to the hospital for two days. Zhang was deeply moved by the love of the congregation. During his treatment, Zhang completed the procedures for body donation.
In 2023, Zhang's condition worsened as the cancer spread to his liver. After being transferred to another hospital, all medical expenses were waived. Believers from the Beimen Church's Multi-Service Center also raised funds for him and hired a full-time caregiver.
On his death day, Beimen Church held a memorial service for him. Then a special vehicle from the Zhangzhou Health Vocational College transported Zhang's body to the college for teaching and research purposes.
According to Rev. Huang Lihong of Beimen Church, "Brother Zhang Mingcong was the third believer in Beimen Church to voluntarily donate his body since the church was established. Several pastors serving at the church have also registered with the Zhangzhou Red Cross Society to voluntarily donate their bodies."
