In Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, Zhendao Church (also known as True Word Church) recently held a lacquer fan-making activity for its young and middle-aged believers, blending biblical truths with the traditional art of lacquer fan craftsmanship.
The church organized the production of over 100 exquisite lacquer fans within two weeks, according to the church. These lacquer fans will be presented to believers as one of the cultural and creative souvenirs of the church to celebrate its 20th anniversary of the restoration.
As an intangible cultural heritage in China, the lacquer fan can be traced back hundreds of years, with lacquer coating, painting, and carving integrated into the lacquer processing and fan-making activities. In the height of summer, it is a popular way for the elderly to use fans to cool down. Believers make lacquer fans by choosing blank fans, designing elegant typesetting, preparing seals of the church, and selecting appropriate scriptures.
