As the 2024 Bible Day, themed "Memorize the Bible," is around the corner, Dianshan Lake Church in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, hosted its first Bible contest last Wednesday to encourage Bible reading among its congregation.

The second Sunday in December (including the preceding Saturday) is designated as "Bible Day" for Chinese churches.

Held on November 20, the competition featured four teams, each comprising four contestants, with each team inviting four to five relatives and friends to attend, said the host church.

The Rev. Wen Xinggui, chairperson of the Kunshan TSPM and director of Dianshan Lake Church, and the Rev. Yu Huiqin, the church's deputy director, and two ministers were invited to serve as judges, along with six church staff members as scorers.

The Bible contest featured six rounds, each with a distinct focus. The first round involved solving riddles about biblical names in a quick-response format. Then the teams took turns answering fill-in-the-blank questions. During the third round, participants determined if the scripture passages, read by the host, were accurate. The fourth round presented 16 questions, like "Whose sacrifice was accepted, Cain's or Abel's, and why?" Contestants answered, and judges scored their responses. The fifth round required teams to perform situational dramas based on four pre-drawn Bible stories. In the last round, relatives and friends answered questions to help contestants earn points.

During the event, participants' performances earned rounds of applause.
