National Theological Education Meeting Convenes in Xi’an

From May 27 to 28, a national Christian theological education meeting was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, with the participation of over 50 individuals, including leaders and academic affairs directors from seminaries across the country, as well as members of the current Theological Education Committee of CCC&TSPM.

According to CCC&TSPM, Rev. Wu Wei, president of CCC, highlighted the importance of theological education, noting its vital role in ensuring the healthy continuation of Christianity in China and advancing its sinicization.

Rev. Lin Manhong, vice president and general secretary of CCC, delivered a keynote report on the evaluation of local theological seminaries. She provided an overview of the evaluation process, reviewed the achievements of various seminaries, identified their respective strengths and weaknesses, and outlined key areas of focus for future development.

During the meeting, participants held group discussions on the evaluation results and suggestions for the trial formulation of junior college and undergraduate curricula by theological colleges. They also proposed strategies for the development of institutions based on connotation, drawing on the evaluation findings, and discussed the implementation details of qualification certification, professional title evaluation methods for seminary faculty, and the draft procedures for conferring academic titles.

The Theological Education Committee of CCC&TSPM is mainly responsible for guiding, promoting, and supporting seminaries in China. The work includes  clarifying their educational missions, driving standardized development and advancing medium- and long-term development plans, enhancing teaching quality, compiling unified textbooks and standardizing syllabi, conducting focused research to support the sustainable growth of theological education in China as well as raising funds for theological education.
