Chinese Most Famous Conductor of Choir Music, Prof. Ma Ge Shun, Died on His 101, on Dec 19,2015.
Professor Ma Ge Shun, Shanghai's most famous conductor of choir music. When he was 100 years old, a special concert was held in his honor in Shanghai. and along with a full choir of wonderful singers from all over Shanghai, a performance of "Advent Handel's Music" was held of selections from Handel's Messiah. The conductor was excellent, but at the end of the concert, Professor Ma was wheeled on stage in his wheelchair, and he told us that his hands were "itchy." Then he proceeded to do an "encore" of the Alleluia chorus for us all, with incredible majesty. After apologizing for his "shaky hands," he blessed us - saying, "I hope you all live to be 100 too."
