The Silk Road has connected China to Europe and other parts of Asia in the early times and if one looks closer, it has made connections so deep that can be seen in artifacts made in the period.

The 'Silk Road and Russian Ethnic Cultural Heritage' exhibition is currently ongoing at the National Museum of China and reflects how deep the connection between the Chinese and the Russians went when the Silk Road was still being used. The artifacts displayed in the exhibit highlighted the rich culture and active trade occurring in the region before Western Asia found itself in a political turmoil that triggered its collapse.

Each piece also highlights how the ethnic minorities located close to the Silk Road played a role in the growth of the trading route, as well as how European and Asian cultures blended together.

Some of the pieces included in the exhibition came from the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St. Petersburg.

The Silk Road and Russian Ethnic Cultural Heritage is held in Gallery S8 of the National Museum of China and will run until October 7.
