After Alibaba and Tencent, another group is going to be joining the efforts of the Palace Museum in preserving the museum's relics and that is The Shimao Group.
On Wednesday, the group, the Palace Museum and the Forbidden City Cultural Heritage Conservation Foundation signed an agreement that would combine their efforts in restoring, preserving and protecting the Palace Museum relics.
The Shimao Group is well-known as a real estate giant will be donating 80 million yuan as part of the deal and the funds will be used by the museum to research and protect the Hall of Mental Cultivation and its relics. According to studies, the hall was previously used as the living quarters of the Ming and Qing dynasty emperors and many consider it a vital part of the Forbidden City.
The first round of renovation and restoration in the hall started in 2002 after the approval of the State Council and it is expected that by 2020, the renovations for the hall will be completed.
The funds would be regulated by the Conservation Foundation as part of the agreement.
Palace Museum curator Shan Jixiang thanked Shimao Group for their assistance and promised that they will be using the funds well to protect the relics in the Forbidden City.
