In 2017, Disney conducted an intense search for the leading star of the upcoming live-action version of "Muln." It eventually found Chinese actress Liu Yifei and now, Disney released the first images of her in character.
According to reports, "Mulan" live-action movie production began on Monday, August 13 and will be taking place in New Zealand and China.
It can be recalled that casting directors have trekked across five continents just to find the star ideal for the role. They searched for an actor who is good with English and martial arts skills.
Liu Yifei, known as the "Fair Sister" in China has primarily appeared in Chinese productions but she also did some American-Chinese movies like "Outcast" and "The Forbidden Kingdom."
Aside from Liu Yifei, Jet Li will be playing as the emperor of China. Gong Li will be playing as a powerful witch and Donnie Yen as Mulan's mentor, Commander Tung. Yoson An will play Chen Honghui, a confident and ambitious recruit who becomes Mulan's ally and eventual love interest. The cast also includes Nelson Lee, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Tzi Ma, Ron Yuan, Cheng Pei-Pei, Rosalind Chao, and Chum Ehelepola.
"Mulan" live-action movie is set to be released on March 27, 2020.
