Faith is trust, confidence and assurance in God. Living faith is known to be showing obedience and service to God. But, what is a dead faith? How will you say that your faith is not enough?
According to Hebrews 11:1, Faith is described as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. Paul is not just defining what faith means but rather he is also showing what faith does in operative sense. Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God and it is the beginning of everything that matters to us spiritually.
According to the Holy Bible, faith may be defined as a belief but as our understanding deepens and as our faith deepens, it becomes more complex and operative: it means we begin to put faith into our works.
People use to believe that they should "just have faith, everything will work out," especially when a person needs comfort or encouragement. However, apostle James shared what he called a dead faith. Dead faith is when a person believes in God but does not do His will and obey His commandments.
In James 2:19-20 it says: "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?"
He continued on James 2:21-22 saying, "Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?"
Apostle James reminded us that real faith is more than just our belief. It includes action and doing what God wants us to do: this is to serve Him and obey His commandments.
