Pastors from five different denominations stated that the widely accepted Christian political view should be the separation of church and state as Christians should be residents of the heaven of God.

Conducted by Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary on July 14, an online seminar titled “Denominations and Their Political Views” explored what the relationship between church and state should be and how Christians dealt with politics.

Dr. John Ong, president of the Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary, said that all denominations should build a bridge of mutual understanding in order to witness the gospel and spread it better and more effectively.

The Baptist pastor claimed that when the church intended to affect politics, one should consider if that exceeded its authority since the logos revealed through Christ was the ultimate realm, while the existence of the world was sub-ultimate. On the contrary, the church must have neglected its calling and duty as the light and salt when it showed indifference to politics.

The other four panelists were Rev. Chong Kian Tshung from Basel Mission, Rev. Chong Chuin Min from the Presbyterian Church, Rev Teng Perng Shyang from the Methodist Church, and Rev. Andrew Lim from the Assemblies of God.
