The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) recently announced the search for the next secretary-general/ CEO to "be officially inaugurated during its General Assembly in October 2025."
Dr. Goodwill Shana, executive chair of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) who will retire in October 2025 after two terms on the WEA International Council, said in the WEA email campaign that "a search committee has been appointed" since the resignation of the former secretary general Dr. Thomas Schirrmacher on March 31, 2024.
"This Committee has members of the Human Resource Committee, Regional Secretary representative as well as Senior Leadership Team members and others," Dr. Shana explained.
The next secretary-general will lead "a global staff team engaged in fulfilling WEA's Roadmap 2030 with four strategic priorities: Strong Evangelical Alliances, Influential Voice of Advocacy, Fruitful and Broad Collaboration and Effective Organizational Structures."
The person will be required to be humble, morally integrated, compassionate, Spirit-filled, gracious towards others, generous, and have "a right attitude to money" with "a history of spiritual discipline" and "a strong sense of divine calling" with "spiritual maturity."
"The Secretary-General is appointed by, and reports to, the WEA International Council (through its Chair and Executive Committee) — comprising representatives of regions around the world."
The application will conclude at the end of May and interviews will come thereafter. The new secretary general "is expected to be inaugurated during the General Assembly for 2025" to be held in Seoul, Korea on October 27-31, 2025.
