A charity event and an activity to assist the students were held in Jiangsu and Fujian.
Reed’s Home Volunteer Service Center in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, held an intensive training course for more than 20 volunteers in Children’s Welfare Home in Zhenjiang who spontaneously signed up on April 16, according to the center. Besides understanding the background of the project, the reason, and how to do it, volunteers were trained to know the scientific concept of helping the disabled and the needs of clients as well as master the norms of voluntary service.
During the training, the person in charge of the center first introduced the purpose, content, methods, and requirements of the training to the volunteers, guiding the participants to introduce themselves.
When introducing the related knowledge through PPT presentation and case sharing, the center taught them about the definition, classification, and characteristics of disability, as well as communication and service skills.
When helping train the related skills through role-playing, simulated scenarios, and group discussions, the center made participants use their knowledge to help the disabled in real or simulated scenarios, where they could also experience the needs and feelings of children and practice their communication and service skills.
At the training site, Zhou Ke, a student from Team Xinghuo of Zhenjiang College, said, “Through this publicity activity, I understand what a disabled person is and how the welfare home provides services for disabled orphans. I also learned many things that volunteering in a welfare home needs to pay attention to. I am deeply aware that volunteering for disabled orphans must not be regarded as a job but accompany disabled orphans with heart and love. ”
The center made a duty roster based on the schedule of the volunteers, to whom the health certificates will be given later. Placed in an internship service, they can start long-term service after passing the internship.
The pastoral staff of Shanghang County Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee in Longyan, Fujian, distributed gifts such as school bags, water cups, extracurricular books, and cakes to 50 outstanding students on April 14, according to Longyan CC&TSPM.
