Tencent Charity, the donation site of the world's largest internet company, Tencent Holdings, launched the "99 Charities Day," a donation matching drive, on September 9, 2017.
Thanks to the Internet and its lively style, the three-day event filled computer screens from September 7 to 9.
Some Christian charities, churches, and Christians joined in the campaign.
Jinde Charities, the first Catholic NGO in China, launched a matching gift program on Wechat for over 200 children from financially disadvantaged families affected in the Ya'an earthquake. Tencent matched the donations.
The official WeChat account of the Amity Foundation declared on Sept 7, "From 9:00 am on the first day of the '99 Charities Day', the Amity Foundation will offer a match donation of one million yuan and Tencent a donation of 99.99 million yuan." Meanwhile, it released donation matching projects for netizens.
The philanthropic projects covered aiding cataract surgeries for the elderly, purchasing school desks for students, providing nutritious food and counseling for pregnant women in plateau areas, and building Solar power stations in poor areas.
A portion of house church Christians gave donations personally or as a group, inviting their family and friends to participate in the projects like collecting treatment fees for sick children.
