HK Government Allocates 47M Disaster Relief Fund to 7 Organizations in 2014-15, Half are Christian Institutions

The Hong Kong government allocated 47.21 million HKD to seven rescue organizations, including Amity Foundation(HK), CEDAR Fund, Oxfam Hong Kong, the Salvation Army, CSDCU Education Fund and World Vision Hong Kong to provide humanitarian assistance for accidents outside HK, which is estimated to benefit 520,000 people.

The Report of Disaster Relief Fund in 2014-15 was recently published by Hong Kong government.

Among the organizations, Amity Foundation, CEDAR Fund, the Salvation Army and World Vision Hong Kong are Christianity Charitable organizations, among which Amity Foundation was founded by mainland Christians. On the funding list of HK government, it can be seen that Amity's work is affirmed by HK government.

The report shows Amity(HK) got the disaster relief grants from HK government in two programs, which are the grant 5.14M HKD used to purchase rice, cooking oil, summer clothes and mosquito nets for the flood victims of Guangxi and Yunnan in July, 2014 and the grant 6.32M HKD used to buy rice, mosquito nets, cooking oil, quilts and folding beds for the earthquake victims of Yunnan in August, 2014.

About the fund 47.21M HKD, HK government points out that it is to support the 15 rescue plans by the seven institutions. It helped Chinese victims in Yunnan, Hunan, Guizhou, Guangxi and flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir of India, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Malawi. HK government affirmed the assistance effects of the seven institutions through the pattern of granting. All the assistance institutions receiving grants must hand in evaluation reports about the usage of grants and checked accounts to the government after finishing every aid plan.
