A symposium on "religion and the rule of law" kicked off in Beijing on December 23, 2017. More than 20 people from universities, the Buddhist Association of China, Christian Witness Theological Seminary, a legal aid organization, and law firms attended.
Sponsored by Pu shi Institute of Social Sciences, the meeting focused on "fundamental issues of religious legislation", "religious person", "the protection of religious property", and "the relationship between new religions/cults and the government".
Pu Shi Institute of Social Sciences is an independent non-governmental research center that promotes the construction of the rule of law and a harmonious society in China. The institute cooperates with universities, research institutes, and government bodies to conduct research on contemporary developments, with a focus on the administration of religious affairs in China from the perspective of public administration more broadly. This includes work on constitutional theory and legal interpretation; the intersection of religion, economics, and charitable work; and religion and international affairs.
