Since the reform and opening-up, tremendous changes have taken place in Chinese society and its religious landscape. The Forum in Commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up & the 15th Annual Symposium of the Social Scientific Study of Religion will be held at Renmin University of China from August 3 to 4, 2018.
With the theme "Religions as Social Reality", the meeting will focus on the following subthemes: the study of religious premises in China, urbanization and religious transition, worldwide Chinese religion, the study of religious extremism, China's church-state relations, rural religions, nationality and religion, religion and philanthropy, and religion and mental health.
Special sessions will cover the religious survey of East Asian societies, legalizing religion, religious theory and Chinese experiences, and the relationship between church and state in the Middle East.
Professor Christian Smith, director of the Center for the Study of Religion and Society at the University of Notre Dame, will give a lecture and teach a five-day course titled "The Frontier of Sociology of Religion".
