More than 900 people from 136 participating teams are expected to compete in the 5th Amity Cup International Table Tennis Philanthropic Tournament in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.
Word4Asia Consulting International will co-host the 5th Amity Cup International Table Tennis Philanthropic Tournament organized by the Amity Foundation to promote Sino-US friendship on October 19-20.
In total, 936 participants have registered, setting a record for the highest number of competitors in the history of the event, including 20 international teams, said the faith-based Amity Foundation.
The tournament has become a national B-level event, with a friendship match added. Additionally, two sub-venues will be set up on-site to highlight Amity's innovations and explorations of Chinese calligraphy and painting.
On July 19, the organizing committee held a meeting to finalize the event plan and issue appointment letters to committee members in Nanjing, Jiangsu. Qian Wenhua, director of the Overseas Management Office of the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and vice president of the Jiangsu People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Chairman Qiu Zhonghui of the Amity Foundation participated in the meeting, along with leaders from the Jiangsu Provincial and Nanjing Municipal Table Tennis Associations and 30 other attendees.
Due to the long distance, the American co-host, Word4Asia Consulting International, did not attend the meeting in person, but discussed the details beforehand. Prior to the meeting, Gene Wood, founder and president of Word4Asia Consulting International, talked with the Nanjing side about the event during his stay in China in middle May.
It is acknowledged that the tournament is China's first charity sports event that combines table tennis with public welfare activities. The Amity Cup has been held for four sessions. Nearly 3,000 table tennis enthusiasts from across the country have participated, raising nearly five million yuan for charity projects such as poverty alleviation, and student financial assistance, as well as helping the needy, the elderly, and the disabled.
The organizing committee requested that all hosting units improve security guard service to prevent emergencies and that emergency measures be in place to prevent accidental injuries to athletes. They also advised providing professional training for volunteers to serve the participants, who should adhere to the competition rules and pay attention to etiquette on the field.
