Registered church leaders are attending the 2023 "Two Sessions" in Beijing.
"Two Sessions" refers to the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) and the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
The first session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC opened on March 4 and lasts for seven and a half days until March 11. There are 2,172 people on the 14th CPPCC National Committee. Of those, 69 are from religious groups, which is 3.18 percent of the total. Among them are nine Christian leaders, such as Rev. Wu Wei (president of Chinese Christian Council), Rev. Zhang Keyun (vice president of CCC), Rev. Xu Yulan (chairman of Shanghai TSPM), and Rev. Xu Xiaohong (president of TSPM), said CCC&TSPM. During the conference, Rev. Xu Xiaohong and Rev. Wu Wei sit on the rostrum as members of the Presidium. The main agenda is to listen to and review the work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and the report on the proposal's work. They also were present at the first meeting of the 14th NPC, listening to and discussing the government work report and other relevant reports.
The first session of the 14th NPC convened on March 5 and the conference will conclude on March 13. There are 2,977 NPC deputies, including Rev. Shan Weixiang, deputy president and general secretary of CCC, as a representative of the 14th NPC elected in Shanghai. Six reports, such as the government work report, the proposal of the "Legislation Law of the People's Republic of China (Draft Amendment)," the institutional reform plan of the State Council, and the election and appointment of members of state agencies, are on the main agenda for the conference.
