The seminar for the compilation of the Introduction to Chinese Christian Ethics was held at Heilongjiang Theological Seminary in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province.
During the workshop from July 5 to 8, Rev. Kan Baoping, residential vice chairman of the China Christian Council (CCC) and Three-Self Patriotic Movement, emphasized in his speech that Christian ethics was an important subject, as reported by the CCC&TSPM. He stated that during the compilation, it was acceptable to reference Western ethical thoughts and theories, but compilers should not simply copy them entirely. He stated that China's five thousand years of traditional culture contained ethical resources, and as early as two thousand years ago, Chinese people had already put forward relatively complete ethical thoughts and concepts. Therefore, when compiling this textbook, it was essential to dig deeper into traditional Chinese culture.
Rev. Lv Dezhi, chairman of Heilongjiang CC&TSPM and president of Heilongjiang Theological Seminary, combined with the development of theological education in Heilongjiang, pointed out that textbooks were crucial guarantees for the quality of theological education in seminaries. He added that they were of great significance for promoting theological thought construction and the sinicization of Christianity.
The meeting finalized the title "Introduction to Chinese Christian Ethics" for the book and refined the newly revised outline. They clarified the post-meeting writing assignments and the writing progress.
