A sinicization of Christianity concert of original praise hymns, themed “Eulogy,” was conducted at Haidian Church in Beijing.
According to the organizer, on November 4, Chongwenmen Church and Haidian Church jointly held this praise meeting at Haidian Church under the auspices of the Beijing Committee of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) of the Protestant Church and the Beijing Christian Council (CC).
Inspired by the “Da Qin Hymn of Perfection of the Three Majesties," the sacred music of Jingjiao (Nestorians) in the Tang Dynasty, which serves as the earliest hymn in China, the praise concert encompassed three sections: "Inherence," "Quest," and "Practice," pursuing the development history of Christianity in China. The organizer of the event expressed, “This presented not only the ancient Christians’s reflection on Chinese traditional culture but also the exploration and practice made by the music ministry on sinicization of Christianity. ”
Rev. Wu Weiqing, president of Beijing CC, remarked that by featuring “original pieces” and merging into Chinese traditional culture, this concert integrated Chinese culture and adapted to the characteristics of the development of Christianity in Beijing. The creation of the music pieces emphasized the localization and nationalization of expressions of Chinese Christianity, giving them a more Chinese and contemporary essence.
