Commemorating the 60th birthday of the team, Daniel Hsieh, director of the Heaven Melody (HM), which is the pioneering Christian singing professional group in Taiwan, expressed his gratitude.
Director Hsieh delivered a speech titled "The Journey of Love: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow of Heaven Melody” at the Second Impact Asia Alliance Summit.
The HM choir was invited to lead several worship services at the summit. Dr. Doris Brougham (also known as Teacher Peng Meng-hui), an American missionary in Taiwan, and Lee Haggerty founded the Overseas Radio and Television, Inc. (ORTV) in 1960, according to Hsieh's introduction during the testimony. And Dr. Doris is 97 years old this year.
ORTV has established two ministries, the Studio Classroom and Heavenly Melody. Founded in 1962, Studio Classroom targets teaching through TV programs and magazines. The following year, HM was born, and this year marks its 60th anniversary. It aims to evangelize and serve around the world through original praise music compositions and music concerts.
“Our ministry created Taiwan‘s first Christian television program, 'Heavenly Melody'. There wasn’t the choir—Heavenly Melody—until we started to compose original music.”
Looking back on some of Tianyun's developments, Hsieh mentioned that in 1979, Dr. Simon Hung, chairman of the ORTV, produced the first gospel film, "Two Brothers," in Taiwan. Looking forward to the future, Director Hsieh said, “The future is in the hands of God.”
To mark its 60th birthday, Heavenly Melody hosted 12 concerts with preaching in different cities in Malaysia from October 19 to 30.
After the music service at the Second Impact Asia Alliance Summit, HM also served in different gatherings in Indonesia, expressing appreciation to the churches and gratitude to God for His protection and guidance for their ministry over the past 60 years.
