On January 20, the Shanghai CPPCC Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee visited Holy Trinity Church for a fellowship event and to write Christian Spring Festival couplets.
Chairperson Xu Xiaohong of National TSPM led committee members in touring the interior of the church to learn about its architecture and cultural history, reported CCC&TSPM.
Located on Jiujiang Road, known as the "Second Facade of the Bund," the church, directly under the management of CCC&TSPM, serves as the Second Religious Sector Committee Member Office for the 14th CPPCC Shanghai Committee. Xu introduced that the church’s spire-shaped clock tower, added in 1893, predates the Bund’s Customs House clock tower by over 30 years. The clock tower, over 48 meters high, was once the tallest structure along the Bund.
At the office, gospel couplets and the Chinese character "fu" were written by committee members and other guests, including Venerable Wuduan, vice president of the Shanghai Buddhist Association and abbot of Xilin Temple; Zhao Zhengke, CPPCC member and chairman of Shanghai Xinjiang Cultural Development Group Co., Ltd.; and Zhang Guoen, calligraphy artist and member of the Shanghai Literature and History Research Institute.
Min Weixing, director of the CPPCC Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs, stated that the event aimed to enhance communication and exchange within the committee. He expressed hope that in the new year, the committee members would contribute to promoting ethnic unity, religious harmony, and social stability.
