Recently, Guangzhou Union Church based in Guangdong Province held a special training session for worship service presiders and seminary interns. The aim of the training was to enhance the service capabilities of worship leaders and further reinforce the church’s role as an internship base for Guangdong Union Theological Seminary.

The training attracted around 30 participants, including worship leaders for services conducted in the morning, noon, evening, Cantonese or Teochew language, as well as seminary students participating in practical training at the church, said the church.

The training focused on four core areas of worship leadership: public prayer, scripture reading, song leading, and attire etiquette. It was conducted through a combination of theoretical explanations, demonstrations, and interactive practical exercises.

In the public prayer session, pastors provided a systematic overview of the structure and connotation of public prayers, emphasizing the need for the pastor’s theological depth and compassionate heart. The scripture reading training specifically addressed rhythm control, expression of emotions, and the ability to adapt in real time. Participants were also trained in guiding the congregants in hymns, focusing on pitch, rhythm, and worship atmosphere. The attire etiquette section set clear guidelines for worship leaders’ dress codes in different worship settings.

As a seminary internship base, the church will continue to improve its training system for worship leaders. “We aim not only to help believers showcase God’s glory in worship but also to provide seminary students with real-world ministry experience, contributing to the development of talents in the church.”
