On December 30, 2019, Pastor Wang Yi, was sentenced by a court in Chengdu, Sichuan province to nine years in prison on charges of "inciting subversion of state power" and "illegal business operations".
The Chengdu Intermediate People's Court in Sichuan publicly announced its first-trial judgment on the incident involving the pastor of the prominent Early Rain Covenant Church. Wang was deprived of political rights for three years and forfeited a personal property of 50,000 yuan.
On Dec. 9, 2018, Wang was detained and taken into police custody.
