Kathmandu, September 8, 2080 - In a recent incident, two Christians, Dhirendra Sunar and Krishna Bahadur BK, were arrested in Kathmandu on suspicion of preaching their faith, despite the absence of concrete evidence.
On the evening of Monday, September 4th, at around 8 PM, local residents reported Sunar and BK distributing religious pamphlets about Jesus on the streets of Lainchour. Responding to the complaints, the Kathmandu police apprehended them, and they are currently held at the Lainchaur police station.
Dhirendra Sunar, originally from Banke but residing in Kathmandu, and Krishna Bahadur BK, who hails from Sarlahi but also lives in Kathmandu, are known members of the Porter House Church in Dharagalli, Nayabazar.
According to sources, the Kathmandu District Court has initiated legal proceedings against them for alleged religious offenses. The court has extended the investigation period by five days.
Sneha Shrestha, Krishna Bahadur BK's wife, has appealed to Nepali-speaking churches worldwide to pray for her husband's release and engage with relevant authorities to expedite his release.
The arrests have sparked protests from religious activists who consider the detention of individuals distributing religious materials in a secular country as contrary to the principles of secularism. They are demanding the immediate release of Sunar and BK, asserting their right to religious freedom.
