Environmental Protection Grant Given to Sichuan's Tibetan Areas

At least 677 million yuan or $100 million would be given to Southwest China's Sichuan province in order to boost environmental protection, especially in on the region's Tibetan parts.

On Thursday, the local authorities of Sichuan would be utilizing the protection funds for its various policies to protect the environment. A majority of the funds or 563 million yuan will be used for treating desertification in 20 different counties while the remaining funds or 114 million yuan will be used for improving irrigation facilities for three counties.

It is expected that these projects would be completed by 2017 and bolster the region's forest acreage span.
