Hubei and Fujian Gov’t Issue Guide for Approving Temporary Places of Worship

On July 19, 2018, the government of Xiling District, Yichang, Hubei, issued a guide for the approval service of temporary places of worship for religious activities.

According to the guide, religious representatives can apply to register temporary sites for religious activities online or on the spot.

Recently, the website of the government of Taizhou District, Fuzhou, Fujian, also released different documents on the declaration and approval of temporary religious places for individuals and social groups and organizations.

The State Administration for Religious Affairs promulgated the regulations on the approval and management of temporary sites for religious activities on February 22, 2018. It took effect on the same day. The new law was based on Article 35 of the revised regulations on religious affairs that came into effect on February. The article states that for religious believers who often need to attend group religious activities are not disqualified to apply for a place of worship, a religious representative can apply to a religious affairs bureau of county-level people's government that can approve a provisional place of worship.
