Chinese Religion Study Association Establishes Commission to Study Rural Religion

In the recent annual convention of Chinese Association for the Study of Religions held in late August, the organization announced the establishment of the Commission for the Study of Rural Religion. 

"Religion in rural areas is a part of rural culture. Intensive study about rural religion is helpful for the implementation of rural revitalization," said Li Jianxin, chief editor of the journal Studies in World Religions, according to China Ethnic Paper. 

Rural religion refers to the religious phenomenon in the rural areas, including primitive religion, Buddhism, Taoism, folk religion, Christianity, and Islam. 

Li said that under the guidance of Marx's views on religion, the new commission would conduct academic studies, organize academic activities, and cultivate rural religion study talent as well as carry out research and hold discussions about rural religion.
