A high-level delegation from the Singapore YWCA conducted a week-long visit to the YWCA in China to advance the shared mission of sustainable development for YWCAs in Asia and worldwide.
At the invitation of the National Council of YWCAs of China, a five-member delegation of senior leaders from the YWCA of Singapore, including Honorary Secretary Dr. Cheryl Lim and Executive Director Ong Puay See, visited the national YWCA from September 20 to 27, according to the National Council of YMCAs & YWCAs of China.
At the meeting, the national YWCA’s centennial stories and experiences throughout different stages of China's social development received recognition from their Singaporean counterparts. The YWCA of Singapore, which emphasizes serving women, particularly those who are disadvantaged or marginalized, has a significant social influence in the country, enlightening the YWCA in China on clear positioning, community support, and humanitarian care.
China and Singapore are co-constructing countries of the Belt and Road Initiative. The YWCA in China draws interest from its Singaporean counterparts with its strong connections to resources at all levels, service concepts in sync with society, and mission practices that align with the country. This enables the YWCA of Singapore to visit China, gain insights, and share their experiences upon returning.
During this trip, the delegation experienced firsthand the international significance of the China International Import Expo, a key initiative of actively opening China's market globally.
Accompanied by the Shanghai YWCA and the Chengdu YWCA, the guests extended their visit to several initiatives, including the China YWCA’s employment empowerment project for people with disabilities in Dujiangyan, the Shanghai Huaai Elderly Care Home affiliated with the Shanghai YWCA, the Shanghai YWCA’s social service point in Dujiangyan, and the distinct service centers (stations or clubs) of the Chengdu YWCA.
At the concluding meeting, the China-Singapore YWCAs reached a basic consensus on cooperation regarding youth exchanges and mutual staff dispatch, for which the two parties have developed medium- and long-term implementation plans.
