The fourth Christian Art Biennale was launched at Tseung Kwan O Methodist Primary School in Hong Kong. This year’s theme was “The Splendor of Beauty in His Land,” with the exhibition running from December 22 to January 1, 2025. The event showcased hundreds of works by 96 Chinese Christian artists.
Organizers said that with many confusing messages abounding in an age of information overload, they aimed to reform radically and deliver inspiring messages while reflecting the beauty and goodness of God through art.
The exhibition spanned 10 days, featuring artists from China's mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and other regions.
In addition to the Christian art pieces, the event also included a variety of activities. The opening ceremony took place on Christmas Eve, followed by five themed lectures and multiple concurrent workshops on December 25 and 26, under the theme “Let Art Enter Our Lives and Communities.” On the afternoon of December 26, an art exhibition concert was held, with a gospel-sharing event conducted on December 28.
The lecture topics included, “Art, Aesthetics, Visual Culture, and Theology,” “Art and Spiritual Growth,” “Art and Community,” “Art and Faith,” and “Art and the Soul.”
Discussions during the lectures covered issues such as how Christian artists defined their artistic journey, whether it was a viable path to navigate the commercial art world, and how Christian artists can address these struggles and challenges.
Aligned with the theme of “Let Art Enter Our Lives,” the exhibition also offered numerous workshops during its 10-day run. Visitors could participate in gospel-themed paper cutting, stone painting, and expressive art activities, with an opportunity to engage in the process of creating art and expressing themselves.
