Twenty disabled people and wheelchair users in Jiangsu each received a unique and most suitable wheelchair on September 28.
The Reed’s Home, a civil charity organization in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, led 7 wheelchair assemblers, wheelchair mechanics and volunteers in tailoring wheelchairs for these special people. All procedures were carefully carried out in accordance with the wheelchair service specifications of the World Health Organization, according to the Reed's Home.
The Disabled Persons’ Federation of Haizhou District, Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, held a wheelchair donation ceremony in Xinghua Community, Xinhai Street. More than 30 people participated in the event, including representatives from local enterprises, Amity Foundation, wheelchair adaptors from Reed’s Home, recipients, and their relatives.
To provide custom-made wheelchairs, the center also carried out "wheelchair social service". The wheelchair assemblers first interviewed the users for evaluation, to determine whether they had a brain injury, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or stroke. Wheelchair users were inquired about their lifestyle and environment, such as the approximate distance they moved every day. Then, the assemblers measured the width of the hip, the depth of the seat, and the distance from the popliteal socket to the sole of the wheelchair users. Eventually, the recipients were trained in the use and maintenance of the wheelchair.
