A church in north China’s Shanxi Province sets up a women’s ministry to help female believers.
On May 13, the day before Mother's Day, believers from urban and pastoral areas celebrated the formation of the women’s fellowship at Yaodu District Church in Linfen City.
During the worship service, Deacon Ma Sanping, who headed the preparatory group of the ministry, delivered a sermon titled "Extraordinary Woman Jochebed", citing Exodus 2:1–10.
She stated that the purpose of the fellowship was not to create another form of gathering but to be a spiritual "gas station" for Christian women. In times of weariness, suffering, or difficulty, they can come to the fellowship to converse, pray, exhort, and encourage one another.
The fellowship has the vision to help female members establish a foundation in scripture, practice their faith through life service, imitate the pious women recorded in the Bible, and become light and salt in the family and society to demonstrate Christ’s beautiful image.
Ma further illustrated her point by referring to Jochebed, the mother of Moses, as an excellent example. She gave birth to three children, with Moses becoming the great leader who led the Israelites out of Egypt and Aaron, the firstborn, becoming the first priest. She placed Moses in a papyrus basket and set it adrift in the river three months after his birth, where Pharaoh's daughter eventually found him. Jochebed was asked to nurse him, and Moses grew up to be 120 years old. His mother’s heritage of faith played a significant role in his last great ministry.
Lastly, the fellowship aims to care about older believers’ marriage and matchmaking for single members, hiring marriage experts to provide counseling on relationships and marriage while encouraging female Christians to follow Jochebed’s example.
