Rev. Zhang Yezhong has dedicated several decades of service to Beihai Church in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Despite being over 70, he remains actively involved in the church, particularly in grassroots congregations within local townships. For many years, leading up to the Spring Festival, he has visited leprosy nursing homes in the city and Hepu County, as well as nearby township churches, to write Spring Festival couplets for believers and locals.
Last Sunday, Rev. Zhang set out early in the morning and traveled to a township church over a hundred miles from the city. Upon arriving at the church, he began writing Spring Festival couplets. Holding a brush, he skillfully inscribed words onto paper, creating a series of blessing-filled couplets.
Rev. Zhang dedicated himself to his work from early morning until late at night that day, standing for 10 hours straight and writing over 190 pairs of Spring Festival couplets. These couplets not only adorned the recipients’ homes but also carried God’s blessings and the love of Christ.
At 11:30 p.m., Rev. Zhang returned home exhausted yet filled with joy. He often remarked, "As long as I can serve the Lord and bring blessings to believers, it’s worth any amount of fatigue." For him, this is more than simply writing Spring Festival couplets—it is a means of sharing and passing on the faith.
Subsequently, Rev. Zhang took the stage this Wednesday at a Spring Festival event in a community square in Haicheng District, Beihai City. Invited to the celebration on January 22, he wrote Spring Festival couplets for the locals, bringing warmth and blessings to the occasion. The event also featured various traditional Guangxi folk activities, including lantern riddles, paper cutting, and the drum-passing flower game, attracting many community members.
