The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) marked its 180th anniversary with a global online celebration on Sept. 23, tracing its history from a gathering of church leaders in London in 1846 to a new initiative aimed at 2033. Dr. Peirong Lin, the WEA's chief of staff, hosted the program, which moved through three themes: the past, the present and the future.

The World Chinese Christianity Alliance (WCA) and the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) jointly hosted a global online gathering on September 23, bringing together evangelical leaders, missiologists, and believers worldwide to commemorate two historic milestones: the 180th anniversary of the WEA and the coming 220th anniversary of Protestant missions in China in 2027, dated from Robert Morrison's arrival in 1807.

In this written interview, Godfrey Yogarajah discusses when churches should seek international assistance, who should decide whether to make a case public, and how advocates can support local believers without taking control of their story. He also reflects on the difficult choices churches face between resisting pressure, remaining in place, and relocating.

In the past, it has been easy to imagine church development in terms of more people, larger venues, richer programs, more professional organizations, and greater platform influence. But "Disciple or Die" forces us to ask a more basic question: Are these people becoming disciples? And are these disciples making other disciples?

At the Asia Conference on Church and Mission (ACCM) 2026, Rev. Godfrey Yogarajah, chairman of the Asia Evangelical Alliance and chair of the World Evangelical Alliance International Council, described the Asian church as standing at a hopeful but sobering moment.

Mansour said in the exclusive interview that although he has not yet visited China, he hopes WEA can continue to build relationship and trust with Christians in China. He also reflected on the role of Chinese Christians in the global evangelical family and the significance of the WCA within the WEA network.

The Asia Conference on Church and Mission 2026 officially opened on June 9 in Alabang, Metro Manila, bringing together approximately 210 delegates from 25 nations. Organized by the Asia Evangelical Alliance (AEA), this year's conference is held under the theme "Disciple or Die 3.0", with the rallying prayer drawn from Habakkuk 3:2.
